A Speculative Design Project
Island State of Cola
Island State of Cola explores a dystopian future where environmental collapse and global conflict reshape human civilization. Set on a small island in Oceania, the story follows a community of survivors who, over generations, lose their original languages and histories, developing a fragmented culture built on oral traditions and the remnants of plastic waste washed ashore. In this speculative world, discarded consumer products like Pepsi logos, Coca-Cola trademarks, and Tesco branding evolve into symbols of spirituality, governance, and economy. This project reimagines the island’s cultural artifacts by designing its map and currency—forms that encapsulate the core of a nation’s identity, including its history, beliefs, and values. Through this lens, Island State of Cola examines the intersection of material waste, mythology, and societal reinvention in a post-collapse world.
