Last Ride Magazine
Through this magazine, we want to change people’s way of seeing fashion. We recognize the capitalist underpinnings of the fashion industry, yet we want to discuss fashion outside of the framework of capitalism and consumer culture. Through in-depth interviews and research-based writing, we aim to reveal the overlooked aspects of fashion: artistry, craftsmanship, concept, the sensation of fabric touching the skin, the memories a piece of cloth can evoke, and the tangible manifestation of personal and societal beliefs.
Research-Driven Content
We not only conduct deep interviews with the designers, we also research their process and methods, fabric source, inspirations, aiming to present the big picture of their creative process.

- Brand - Literature
In fashion design, it's typical for designers to base their collections on an identity that embodies their ideals, dreams, and desires. They then create clothes and accessories reflecting this identity. From the interviews, we capture this vague identity. In a section we call 'brand literature’, we elaborate and enrich this abstract character, using language to animate it. This approach allows readers to better understand the underlying concepts behind works, and more importantly, to make brands more touching, and more relatable.
More on Brand Literature
And based on the development of brand identity, we used that to come up with advertising and branding solutions. We see branding as storytelling. As shown in the samples above, with Joyce’s collection, we learned that her identity is fictional female knights and armors. We need to re-create this identity and differentiate it from traditional female armors in male writer’s fantasies. Therefore, we created 5 screenplays. Through performing the scripts, the model stepped into a role that is complex and nuanced. She embodies a woman who is strong, complex, and vulnerable. Through this kind of experimental process, we approach advertising differently.
We started the magazine in 2023 and it is still on-going. We will feature 7 designers in the first issue, and we collaborate with multiple writers and photographers. We are also in contact with several galleries and fashion buyers, as our attempt to revive the showroom culture. A lot of things are going on. We are planning to host our first event by the end of this year.
